Description:

The new Travelite V series binoculars incorporate several new features designed to make them more user friendly while enhancing optical performance.Nikon Travelite V binoculars utilize precision ground, multicoated optics, and high index BaK4 prisms for true color rendition, maximum sharpness and enhanced light transmission. The new binoculars use aspherical eyepiece lenses which provide a very flat viewing field and offer markedly improved edge-to-edge sharpness over many conventional lenses. The new Travelite V features large, conveniently located central focus knobs and clicking diopters. Each model in the series features 25mm objective lenses for maximum light gathering.A new, ergonomically contoured, carbon-fiber body makes the Travelite V easy to use for long viewing sessions without physical fatigue. The lightweight body incases a rugged all-metal chassis and is covered with a durable black rubber armor that provides added shock resistance and a positive grip in slippery conditions.

In selecting a binocular to use in my backpacking and mountaineering hobbies, I wanted something small, light weight, and with reasonably good optics, yet not so expensive that I'd cry in my beer for days should I drop or otherwise damage them. These binoculars seemed to be the ideal choice. Although slightly more expensive than the half-dozen other brands which I compared them with, to my eyes the Nikon Travelites had noticeably superior optics. They are compact yet comfortable to hold, and the rubber body covering provides for a secure grip. And with a weight of around 9-ounces I almost never give a second thought about adding them to my pack. I chose the 10x model, but 8x, 9x, and 12x models are also available for those with differing needs and preferences. An all around quality binocular for this price range.

I will skip the technical mumbo jumbo and focus on the experience of using these binoculars.

br /When I first picked these up, I was surprised and pleased at how light and comfortable they were in my hands. My pleasure remained and my surprise quickly turned to amazement when I brought them to my glasses (Yes, I wear glasses and no, I did not take them off to try them out. I use them with my glasses on - very nice!). WOW! Beautiful color and pristine field of view - from the left of the lenses to the right the of the lenses. I did not know such a wonderful image could be seen through binoculars. Images seen are crystal clear and higher detail than what can be seen with the naked eye (or in my world - through glasses). This is true from the closest focused items to the furthest focused object. (I looked at weeds ~15' away and on the weeds I could see grains of dirt not seen with the unaided eye. Also the weeds were more distinguished than with the unaided eye. I turned to look at some nearby mountains and I clearly saw eagles riding thermals that I could not see without the binoculars).
br /The focus knob is easy to use, they are very easy on the eyes, the price is reasonable, and I even like the color. These would make a fine gift for most any age group and for most user levels.

I bought this binocular for music concerts. The foucus is clear and the eye fatigue for long time use is minimal. A good binocular for me.

The binoculars offer clear magnification over an acceptably wide field. They are compact enough to carry and use for both watching baseball and football games as well as for slipping into a backpack for field use. The price is definitely a bargain for the quality.

I own the older version of these so I thought this would be a safe bet to give my bird watching sister for Christmas. When she tried them out she complained of a half moon shaped flare in the lower left corner that comprised about 1/3 of the field of view. This was evident any time the binoculars were pointed within 90 degrees of the sun. My older Nikon binoculars do not exhibit this if pointed in the exact same direction. She tried two copies of these (we paid the shipping cost for both returns to BH)and I am looking for another comparable set in a different brand.

I purchased these binoculars based on the Nikon name and the low price for them. This item is of very good quality for the minimalist. They are not the most powerful binoculars by any means but they are perfect for what I wanted to use them for. We have an old set of binoculars that are more powerful but they are heavy. The Nikon Travelite is just the right size and weight for bird watching and viewing the other critters we have visiting our back yard which is pretty much a haven for small animals.

An excellent quality for the price pair of binoculars. Very light-weight, easy to adjust and perfect for baseball games. I was tired of lugging an old pair of 8X24 binocs to baseball games and these Nikons are exactly what I needed. They do not get 5 stars because the package only includes protective covers for the eyepieces and not the lens.

I never owned one of these binoculars,
br /so I do not know how good they really are...
br /
br /...but I nearly orderd a pair before I read
br /the suggestions on the internet to never ever
br /buy a zoom binocular. So before buying these
br /product, think (and read) about the issue
br /that zoom binoculars are "worse" than ordinary
br /binoculars.

Unfortunately my comments have to focus more on the ingegrity of the packaging vs the actual product. I purchased these binoculars on-line and were intended as a gift for a colleague. The integrity of the box containing the binoculars arrived torn, scuffed, and appeared to have been used or reflect a possible return. The product itself appeared untouched. The product was shipped from a preferred Amazon distributor and not identified as refurbished on the Amazon site. Since this was a gift, I felt the need to have the box replaced. The distributor no longer had any in stock and I had the choice to return without replacement or keep with a credit for freight. Amazon was not able to provide any recourse other than return for credit as it was shipped from a distributor. I chose not to give this product as a gift, therefore I am not able to comment on the quality. I am debating whether or not to return product or give to a family member.
